Here is an extract of the Actions of the Apulian Lifestyle project, conceived and proposed by the Special Health Marketplace Coordination Structure of the Puglia Region directed by dr. Felice Ungaro.
“Lifestyles at school” in collaboration with the Regional School Office and CIHEAM Bari. Ci.Bu.S. project “Cibo buono per tutti” (“Good food for everyone”) was set up, with awareness-raising and training days addressed to Apulian students in order to develop a correct culture of food education and prevention and promote the spread of lifestyles based on the Mediterranean Diet in Apulia.
“Lifestyles in the university” studied in collaboration with University of Bari, Policlinico Bari, Regional Health Agency, CIHEAM, Distretto H-Bio. It aims at implementing a research centre for the study of nutraceutical/functional elements and the effects on the human genome in order to improve food safety, by means of an integrated digital platform, to fight malnutrition based on the principle of sustainability of the Mediterranean Diet as applied to the Apulian region.
“Apulian Lifestyle oncological network” is a network of regional and national entities in collaboration with IRCSS Oncologico di Bari and LILT Lega Italiana Lotta Tumori. It includes a series of training and information activities on cancer prevention and the importance of adopting a correct lifestyle and healthy diet in order to achieve a better quality of life and correct attention to one’s own health status.
“Human pole nanotechnologies – life sciences hub” brings together several partners including CNR Lecce, IRCCS “Giovanni Paolo II” of Bari, “G. Panico” Hospital of Tricase, CIHEAM BARI, Municipality of Tricase, IRCCS “De Bellis” Castellana Grotte, H-BIO Puglia, IRCCS “G. Pascale” Foundation in order to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches based on applications nanotechnologies in the fields of immuno-oncology, neurodegenerative diseases and non-communicable diseases through research on raw materials and related impact of diets and in particular of the Mediterranean Diet.
The activity “Player of the agri-food industry” initiated in collaboration with the company Molino Casillo spa, CONSIS Soc Cons. a.r.l., Department of Basic Medical Sciences, Department of Neuroscience and Sensory Organs Uni.Ba. Through studies and experiments, it aims to identify the genetic and environmental factors involved in the pathogenesis of the Metabolic Syndrome, a condition characterised by the simultaneous presence of weight gain (abdominal fat), type II diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, insulin resistance. This condition has a major impact on public health, and affects about a quarter of the world’s population over the age of 40, with a constantly increasing prevalence even among younger people.
“Startup & temporary coworking” – a project developed with Puglia Sviluppo – envisages a series of information/training events that bring together schools, companies and the economic development sector, thanks to around a thousand start-ups involved. It intends to create professional communities of interdependent workers through the sharing of physical spaces and working tools; training and information courses for citizens wary of technology on the use of mobile devices connected to the Internet and the institutional web services of the Apulia Region; a comparison between the needs of citizens, the institutions present and the businesses that represent the local economy.
“Microbiota and Transplant”, launched with the contribution of Distretto H-BIO, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, Azienda Ospedaliera Policlinico di Bari, IRCCS “De Bellis” Castellana Grotte, aims to seek practical applications of the microbiota for diagnosis, prevention, therapy of some diseases. The hypothesis is that the analysis of microbial communities may be a useful diagnostic tool in the clinical field in order to identify at an early stage patients at greater risk of complications, with a considerable socio-economic impact.
“Food4Health” is an Interreg Italy-Albania-Montenegro programme aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of small and medium enterprises of the areas involved through the improvement of production techniques and the transfer, sharing and adoption of European quality standards for the processing and valorisation of typical and traditional products of the agri-food and fishery sector in order to foster market access. The project envisages bottom-up workshops aiming at becoming innovative models to support enterprises, to foster new entrepreneurial realities and to re-qualify undervalued production chains.
“Nutraceutics & Nutrigenomics” an experiment aimed at assessing the protective effects of oil naturally rich in polyphenols, vitamin E, Omega3 and Omega6 on health compromised by exposure to a mixture of contaminants, such as those found in the biological fluids of citizens living in contaminated areas, such as Taranto. Partners involved: Azienda Universitaria Ospedaliera Consorziale – Policlinico, CIHEAM Bari, Opera Fondazione “Card. G. Panico” in Tricase, Regional Agency for Health and Social Affairs of Apulia, H-BIO District Apulia.
The “Apulian Lifestyle recipe” is an experimental idea developed together with the Apulia Region’s Department for Health Promotion, Social Wellbeing and Sport for All, the Apulia Medical Association and ARPA, the Regional Environmental Protection Agency. A special medical prescription where diet and physical activity are recommended instead of drugs and diagnostic tests. This is meant to be a revolution which focuses on the General Practitioner and the paediatrician, since children and the new generations must be educated to prevent the possible chronic pathologies by acquiring a healthy lifestyle through a correct diet and physical activity.
